Laparoscopy – OB/GYN Physicians

Brooklyn Heights, NYC

Dr. Marashi is an internationally recognized leader in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. He performs conventional and advanced laparoscopic procedures, helping patients avoid more invasive open and robotic procedures performed by many OB/GYNs.

Remember that YOU are undergoing the surgical procedure. There are far better options than open surgery, robotic surgery, and standard laparoscopic surgery for almost all GYN problems. See a well qualified and well-trained minimally invasive GYN surgical specialist who is board-certified and fellowship-trained.

What is a Laparoscopy?

LaparoscopyThe doctor can observe and perform a variety of procedures on a woman’s reproductive organs (the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes). Since the surgeon uses instruments that fit into a narrow tube called a cannula, only a small incision is necessary.

When Laparoscopy Used?

Laparoscopy is used in the following surgical situations:

We use newer devices such as NovaSure, Hydrothermal Ablation, and Thermachoice® to treat the above conditions.

Advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery

The patient’s potential benefits include less scarring, significantly less pain, reduced blood loss, fewer complications, a shorter hospital stay, a faster return to normal daily activities, and the possibility of a better clinical outcome.

  • Less risk
  • Less pain
  • Smaller scar
  • Faster Recovery

Performing surgery laparoscopically also reduces the chance of forming internal scar tissue (adhesions) after surgery. In some people, these adhesions can cause pain, and in 1-3% of people, they may lead to intestinal obstruction at some point in their lives. Fewer adhesions are formed after laparoscopic surgery because no sponges or retractors are needed, and the internal tissues are not dried by exposure to room air.
From the perspective of the surgeon, many types of surgery are actually easier to do laparoscopically because the internal areas of interest are magnified and shown on a large TV screen.

Laparoscopy Procedure

The surgeon visualizes the inside of the abdomen by introducing a lighted instrument called a laparoscope through the narrow cannula. Other specially engineered instruments the surgeon needs can also be introduced via this cannula.

Improved Technology, Faster Healing

You’ve just been diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery. Until very recently, your options included traditional surgery with a large open incision or laparoscopy, which uses small incisions but is typically limited to very simple procedures.

Thanks to breakthrough surgical technology, there is a new category of minimally invasive surgery for which you may be a candidate. It is an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy. Through the use of Laparoscopic Surgery, surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.

Imagine major surgery performed through the smallest of incisions. Imagine having the benefits of definitive treatment, but with the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stays, faster return to normal daily activities – as well as the potential for better clinical outcomes.

Multiple studies have shown laparoscopy to be safer, to be less expensive, and to have a shorter recovery time.

Laparoscopic Surgery is changing the experience of surgery, while surgeons and hospitals are re-writing accepted standards for surgical care.
